Calling All DIY Installers- Helpful Measuring Advice for Custom Screen Doors!

Do you consider yourself pretty handy? Do you plan on installing your new wood screen door on your own over the weekend? If you are the go-getter DIY type, then we have some helpful advice for you.

As you may have noticed while reading our How to Measure Instructions, we recommend ordering the door to the widest width, and tallest height (if your width and height measurements vary). Reason being, your carpenter installing the door will be able to trim it down on site to ensure it fits perfectly! But wait, if you are installing the wooden screen door yourself, and do not have a quality planer or sander at home, what size should you order?

For our DIY installers, we recommend ordering your door a ¼” smaller width and ¼” smaller height than the largest width and height measurement. This will give you an 1/8” gap on each side, top, and bottom. For example, if you find that your widest width is 36-1/4” and the tallest height is 81-1/4”, then we recommend ordering the door as a 36” x 81”. This clearance all around the door will create for a much easier installation process for DIY installers, and will allow the door to function properly.

If you have any questions about your measurements and want to talk to a screen door expert, give us a call today! When ordering a custom screen door, it is better to measure twice and cut once!
