If you are staining your new wooden screen door, or just want to apply a clear coat, look no further than a Marine Grade Spar Varnish. There are multiple brands that carry this type of product, and it is our formal recommendation for a few reasons...

1) A Marine Grade Spar Varnish will protect your door from moisture getting into your door. Moisture is the main culprit for twisting and bowing of wood. If any water gets into the pores of your door if it is not sealed properly, it can be at a high risk of twisting and therefore not fitting properly overtime.

2) You will want to look for a product that has UV absorbers. This is a great feature, especially if your screen door is exposed to direct sunlight to keep your door looking beautiful!

3) If you live near the ocean, a Marine Grade Spar Varnish will protect your door against salty air. The ocean and salt water can quickly age your custom wood screen door if it is not finished properly.
